Incubating Jessica Brainstorm with Dorian Wolf Via Skype - 2/27/15
My honest truth is that I almost decided not to publicize this at all. Scared. Brand new. As of three days ago, Dorian and I had actually never been in a room together (other than having met in a theater watching "Butter on the Latch" together at last year's Berlinale). Over this past weekend, we finally got to rehearse together in the same room!
As you know I’ve been talking about the Jessica Brainstorm project for a number of years now… in search of a collaborator with whom to bloom my song sketches. Although JB is still in utero, it recently induced early birthing with two back-to-back shows at Pete's Candy Store (March 28th) and Shapeshifter Lab (March 29th). Dorian and I only tackled two songs (a 10-minute long set in total).
Sarah Small and Toronto-based Dorian Wolf (Austra) explore electronic and vocal layerings and dark thick harmonic experimentation, with influences ranging from Balkan vocal traditions to contemporary dream pop. Think Medieval Renaissance meets Bjork meets NIN meets Massive Attack meets Reilly meets Les Mystere De Voix Bulgares meets Raffi’s Children's Music meets classic rock+roll meets Primus meets who knows what...
